CENTER FOR WOODEN BOATS FUND RAISER
The CWB's "First Annual" effort to raise funds for the Shop Program for Kids was held on the evening of September 6th. Attendees were treated to delicious food and beverages prepared by next door neighbor, Daniel's Grill. Our chapter provided boat rides as an added incentive. The event was a great success, raising over $7000.00! Since all expenses were donated, the entire amount goes directly to the program. Thanks to the following for bringing your boats and giving rides: Ike Kielgass ("Nameless"), John and Delores Flaherty ("Racer's 19"), Dick and Kathy Dow ("Sindbad"), Curt and Marsha Erickson ("Hokey Pokey") Al Mc Ewan ("Jezebel") and Susan and Dick Kasperson ("Chubasco"). The Center is very grateful to our chapter and especially to Barbara Carper for spearheading and coordinating this event.
FAMILY FUN DAY
Sharon and Cary Roth hosted this year’s festivities, Saturday, September 8th, at their beautiful home on the east side of Mercer Island. The attendees were treated to the traditional beer and brats along with a multitude of delicious salads and other “goodies”. Participation was good. Seven boats were at the event: “Chubasco”, “Conny”, “Racer’s 19”, “Nameless” “Huckledybuck” “Banshee” and “Nostalgia”. We really appreciate Sharon and Cary’s hospitality. It was a great time. Apparently we all behaved ourselves well enough to be invited back next year! This is a fun event and a good way for members to become involved in our club.

Kirkland Invitational Concours d’Elegance
The Fifth Annual Phil Smart Mercedes-Benz Kirkland Invitational Concours d’Elegance was held on Sunday, September 9th at Carillon Point. This is one of the premier car shows in the country with many “Pebble Beach” quality cars on display. As in the past, several classic “woodies” were invited to participate. This year they decided to judge the boats. The judging criteria differs from the ACBS system in that the entries are judged more on appearance and timeliness of design (elegance) rather than the 100 point system incorporated at, for example, Tahoe
Invitees:

First Place was awarded to “O Sole Mio”, Second Place went to “Nameless” and “Loon” picked up Third Place. Chapter members Dick Dow and Craig Magnuson judged the boats.
This year’s event was very well attended with all of the proceeds benefiting Evergreen Hospital Medical Center and Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center. Last year’s event raised over $200,000. Next year’s show will be on September 7th. Mark your calendar!
